The initiative of meeting the tasks of map curatorship with Cartographic Heritage embedded into the Digital, a foundamental issue of the Commissions Terms of Reference, started in 2013 and was finilised in 2014.

Thanks to the ideas and the work done by the Commission Vice-Chair Carme Montaner and the Commission members Renata Šolar and Mira Miletić Drder, all from the field of map-curatorship, the former well known "LIBER Groupe des Cartothécaires" in its 19th Conference held in the National and University Library of Ljubljana, Slovenia, 22-24 May 2014, took the shape of a new international curators group under the name MAGIC - Map & Geoinformation Curators Group.

The new group asked to join the Commission willing to develop innovative relevant synergies in the field of Cartographic Heritage and its Digital interactions focusing on the mission of Libraries, Archives and Museums in providing cartodiversity assets.

The MAGIC Group is a core element of the Commission participating in the Conferences and Tutorials interacting in a valuable way for the fulfillment of the ToR.
