Mission

Principal mission of CartoGeoLab is the development and dissemination of Cartography and Geographic analysis and the spreading of the results of relevant educational and research work with major concern on the subjects of interest of the International Cartographic Association; the design, coordination and implementation of the cartographic education curriculum and training of students in the undergraduate and post graduate level; the development and maintenance of cartographic infrastructures and technologies in situ and in networks mainly at local and regional scales with emphasis in the processes of digital information and communication; the advancement of cartographic design and production; the research and implementation in mathematical cartography, map projections and deformational properties of maps; the advancement and dissemination of the results of the specialisation research and implementation in conventional and non-conventional thematic cartography including cartographic relief and shading, tactile mapping, animation and other innovative mapping issues; the basic and applied research in histrorical cartography and cartographic heritage; the develpoment and offering of know-how on the issues relevant to map libraries, map collections and map related archives, including digitisation, georeferencing and web-providing in the modern context of GLAM.

CartoGeoLab is a legal academic entity of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Engineering, School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Department of Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography, established in March 2016 (Official Gazette No. B 636, 9.3.2016) after the University Senate decision in December 2015 following the proposal made by the School of Rural & Surveying Engineering (SRSE)
