Rare manuscript maps of Archipelago, 1685-1687
Rare manuscript maps of the Cyclades islands in the central Aegean Sea made by the French in 1685-1687 after the orders of Louis XIV are revealed recentry in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) Library as part of the Tricoglou Collection. These maps are subject of cartographic and historical research carried out in the AUTH CartoGeoLab in partnership with the AUTH Library.
In the frame of the special bilateral cooperation agreement between the AUTH and the Municipality of Thessaloniki in the field of libraries, archives and collections, these exceptional maps are presented for the first time to the public, on 25 January 2017 at the Thessaloniki City Hall. The speakers are AUTH profs I. Hassiotis, E. Livieratos and I. Tzifopoulos.

A new working period (2015-2019) for international Cartographic Heritage
The 16th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the frame of the 27th International Cartographic Conference, 23-28 August 2015, decided to give a new working period (2015-2019) to its Commission on Digital Technologies in Cartographic Heritage, accepting the proposal for a slightly different name which now reads as ICA Commission on Cartographic Heritage into the Digital. The ICA General Assembly has re-elected Evangelos Livieratos as the Chair for the working period 2015-2019. The Commission's new website is now in the address: http://cartography.web.auth.gr/ICA-Heritage

The Workshop on Ancient Chinese Maps and Exchange of Chinese-Western Cartographical Culture was held in Beijing on 3 June 2015 in the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR). The Workshop was organised by the Commission of Cartography and GIS of the China Society of Surveying & Mapping and Geoinformation under the sponsorship and support of the Zhengzhou University of Information Engineering, the IGSNRR and the State key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System (LREIS).
Academicians, professors, researchers, graduate students participants in the Beijing Workshop on Chinese-Western Cartographic HeritageInvited academicians, professors, scientists, researchers and graduate students coming from Research Institutes and Labs of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, from Universities, the National Library of China and other Institutions, presented their research on the issue and participated in discussions for future work and cooperation. Academicians Gao Jun and Zhou Chenghu and Profs Qi Qingwen, Sun Qun, Liqiu Meng, Bai Hongye, Gong Yingyan, Lu Liangzhi, Liang Qizhang and Evangelos Livieratos, presented papers and participated in the closing round table discussion. Prof. Ferjan Ormeling, Utrecht, received the academic title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Engineering, in a ceremony held on May 7, 2015. The nomination was adressed by the Department of Cadasrte, Photogrammetry and Cartography, School of Rural and Surveying Engineering in recognition of Prof. Ormeling's outstanding contribution to Cartography. The Laudatio was read by Prof. Evangelos Livieratos.
