Barcelona / Ljubljana 3rd May 2016

Dear MAGIC members,

The last conference in RIGA was a great success. The first meeting of MAGIC, in cooperation with the ICA Commission on Cartographic Heritage into the digital, gathered 92 participants from 25 countries. During two and a half days, 53 papers that relate to map curatorship as well as digital technologies applied to old maps, were presented. RIGA 2016 was also the first international meeting during which 9 map librarians from the USA have participated. Indeed, our colleagues from the USA will host a workshop on map librarianship at the next International Cartographic Association general Assembly, in Washington DC next year. All MAGIC members are welcome to attend the workshop and the conference.

Special acknowledgment goes to our colleague Anda Juta Zalite from the National Library of Latvia for hosting such a successful conference.

In addition, the future of ongoing conferences has been discussed. Next conference will be in 2018, the exact location will be announced soon.

Carme Montaner from the Cartographic and Geologic Institute of Catalonia and Renata Solar from National Library in Slovenia suggested that it is time for a new leadership of MAGIC considering that the process of renewal is finished. In a spirit of new leadership we elected three new members to the Board of MAGIC: Greger BERGVALL from The National Library of Sweden, Jelena GLISOVIC from the National Library of Serbia and Martin STORMS from the Leiden Universities Libraries.

Our long-time colleague, honorary member Henrik Dupont retired. We would like to thank him for his peerless performance for many years. We will all miss him very much.

The last, but not the least very special acknowledgment to prof. Evangelos Livieratos for the generously support in all fields of group activities.

The new composition of the MAGIC board after RIGA conference 2016 is:
