Hosted in a state owned two floor building at the Upper City of Thessaloniki (Ano Poli):
National Centre for Maps & Cartographic Heritage - National Map LibraryEstablished in 1997 as a non-profit, self-governed and self-financed public institution under private law. It is supervised by the Ministrer of Macedonia-Thrace for budgetary issues only. A five-member Board administrates the functions and the operation of the Centre.
The Centre's main concern is the development and diffusion of Cartography and Maps in Culture, Education, Production and Everyday life and also the development and management of a Map Library and the implementation of new information and communication digital technologies in order to satisfy the Centre's overall aims and perspectives.
The traditional-style building was restored in the frame of "Thessaloniki Cultural Capital of Europe 1997" and was consessed for free use to the Centre by a joint act signed by the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works and the Minister of Macedonia - Thrace, in February 1999. The building inaugurated on October 31, 1999.
